Rehabilitation Externships. Each year the Wildlife Center admits about 3,800 patients – sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals in need of medical care. The wildlife rehabilitation externships give in-depth, hands-on experience in the field of wildlife rehabilitation. Externships range from 4-12 weeks, however, a 12-week externship is preferred.It’s illegal. In Virginia and many other states, it’s illegal to trap animals and move them off of your property. Licensed trappers who hold a Commercial Nuisance Animal Permit may trap wildlife and release them at the edge of a homeowner’s property, or may humanely euthanize the wild animals.
